A Kids-only ring tone
This article in the NY Times explains "the misquito", a cell phone ring tone that only kids can hear. It jumps on the fact that most adults lose some portion of their hearing over time and can't hear high-pitched noises.
I personally can hear it, just barely, despite my 20% hearing loss according to my doctor. It's faint, but it sounds like the high-pitched noise a TV or monitor makes when the CRT tube is messed up.
Now, what this has over the "vibrate" function, I'm not sure.
